Inaugural Odgers Trophy

I

n memory and honour of past player Jonathan 'Jono' Odgers the Mooroopna Football Netball Club has instituted The Odgers Trophy for Most Valued Team Mate.

The trophy is voted on by the playing group for the most valued team mate, guided by the values displayed by Jono as a player and clubman:

  • Accept challenges given by the coach

  • Hard working and team oriented, hold team mates in high regard

  • Very competitive, always do your best

  • Reliable, loyal, team-mate and clubman to all at the MFNC

A much loved and respected U16 Premiership player who had transitioned through our juniors into senior ranks (57 senior games), tragically Jono's life and football career was cut short in a farm accident on 20 March 2020.

With no season in 2020, the trophy was first awarded last night and formally presented, in the Sir Ian McLennan Centre following Round Three matches. Jono's family, friends and team mates were in attendance.

An honour board installed in the MFNC football change rooms serves as an inspirational reminder of the team values we hold proudly and as a memorial to a fine young aspiring footballer, team mate and clubman.

Congratulations to MFNC Senior Captain Matt Deane on being the inaugural recipient of this award.

We are Mooroopna.
